"Hey everyone! This week has been okay. During the first few days of this week I was still recovering from being sick. In total I was sick nearly two weeks. That wasn't fun. I don't think our water supply here was exactly helping either. We didn't realize until last night that our drinking was was infected with mosquito larva. We had to go to the river this morning to get water. We had some good missionary experiences this week though. In addition to teaching less actives and finding new investigators we need to accomplish the responsibilities of a branch president. That's my companions calling here. Since we need to update the church system we have to find the families of people who have left San Blas and send their information to the branch closest to where they live. This is a hard task and has taken up much of our time this week. The other day we had a cool experience though. I noticed a man working in his small farm behind the church. He had only one leg but was still out working to weed out his small farm. I offered our help and he happily accepted. We helped him finish cleaning the land over twice as fast as how long it would have taken him. I asked him his name and got to know him a little bit. Turns out he is one of the less active priesthood holders we've been looking for. We later went over to his house and taught him a lesson. Were going to continue working with him. We now know where he lives. We have actually done a lot of service lately. Mainly cutting grass and weeds on the properties of different people using machetes. If you all want to learn some patience and test your endurance, get a machete to cut the grass on your yard. Haha! My hands are covered in cuts and blisters. Living out here is making me so grateful for all the stuff I have back home. Reliable electricity, running water, clean water, lawn mower, personal bathrooms, etc. Working here has also been a little difficult lately due to this massive gathering of Kuna leaders here in Ukupa. There are like 10 village leaders here that are teaching Kuna tradition to the people. They have been calling a bunch of mandatory meetings that everyone has to attend. Its kind of funny. Each group brought a guy whos sole responsibility is to yell around the village and get everyone to go to the massive meeting house. !0 different guys all walk together yelling. I felt that was kind of overkill. Ha! Sadly, they called one during the same time we do church every Sunday. Not many people came to church. O well..At least our investigator Francisco went to church. We can now baptize him next week so that's pretty awesome. I tried a new fruit this week. Its called fruta de pan. Which translates to bread fruit. It was pretty good. Essentially like a large potato that grows on a tree. Very starchy. After cutting it up and frying it reminded me of the fries that you get at Red Robin. Also, this week we were gifted a ton of plantanes. Somebody gifted us about 10 and while we were out walking around the village to teach people others just started to give us more. When we got to the house we had both arms full and 28 in total. Haha! That's a ton. To give you an idea. About 3 of the large ones is more than an order of large fries at McDonald's. I give that comparison because we cut them up and fry them like fries. Tastes pretty similar. The other option is to make the do/le/massee soup and I personally find it really gross. O well. Challenge accepted...I don't want to let them go to waste and we have a large bottle of ketchup. You can eat them when they get ripe just like bananas but its not as good. Their more similar in flavor to potatoes I dare say. Well..I think that explains this week pretty well. I hope all of you guys have a good week!! Love you guys!!"
